Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is this right for my skin type?
Yes—Opal Tallow is formulated for all skin types, including dry, oily, sensitive, acne-prone, and mature skin. It's especially helpful for skin concerns like eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, and inflammation. Because it’s gentle, non-toxic, and free of synthetic additives, it's safe for babies, postpartum care, and reactive skin.
  • Can I use this on my face—and the rest of my body?
Yes. Our tallow balm is a non-comedogenic, all-over moisturizer—safe for use on your face, body, hands, feet, and even delicate areas. It won’t clog pores or leave a greasy residue. In fact, it helps balance oil production, soothe breakouts, and calm sensitive skin. Whether you're using it as a facial moisturizer, night balm, or body cream, it melts in effortlessly and nourishes deeply from head to toe.
  • What ingredients are used—and what do you avoid?
We use only skin-loving ingredients. You’ll never find synthetic fragrance, parabens, fillers, preservatives, or harsh chemicals in our formula. We focus on real, functional skincare—no fluff.
  • How do I use Opal Tallow balm in my skincare routine?
Use it as a daily moisturizer, night balm, or all-over body cream. Warm a small amount between your fingers and apply to clean, damp skin. A little goes a long way—our balm is highly concentrated and fast-absorbing.
  • Where is Opal Tallow made?
Each jar is hand-poured in Charlotte, North Carolina using pasture-raised tallow sourced from the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We’re a small-batch, woman-owned business committed to slow, intentional skincare rooted in nature.
  • What if my tallow melts or changes texture during shipping?
Because our balm is 100% natural and contains no stabilizers, it may soften, melt, or develop a grainy texture if exposed to heat during shipping. Don’t worry—this doesn’t affect its quality or benefits. To fix it: Option 1 – Use As-Is: You can still use it in its softened state. It will melt into your skin just the same. Option 2 – Firm it Up: Place the jar in the refrigerator (lid on) for 1–2 hours until it solidifies again. It may firm up without needing to re-whip. Option 3 – Re-whip at Home (Optional): Scoop the balm into a clean bowl. Let it soften fully to room temperature. Use a hand mixer or stand mixer to whip for 1–2 minutes until fluffy. Spoon the whipped balm back into the jar using clean utensils. Just be sure not to introduce any water into the product, and store it in a cool, dry place to maintain texture.
  • Is it shelf-stable? How long will it last?
Yes, our balm is naturally shelf-stable for up to 12 months. No refrigeration needed. Just keep it sealed, away from heat, and avoid introducing water into the jar. Clean, stable, and made to last.
